America Is Still Drinking Vodka — But Growth Is Coming from Somewhere Else

Vodka remains the largest U.S. spirits category by revenue, but the growth story in 2026 is increasingly being driven by ready-to-drink cocktails and other convenient formats.

Tito’s remains the largest-selling full-strength spirits brand in the United States, and its off-premise volume was essentially flat but positive at +0.1% year-to-date through September 19, 2026. By comparison, many other major traditional spirits brands posted declines over the same period.

The broader market tells an even clearer story. Total U.S. spirits volume is projected to reach approximately 313.4 million 9-liter cases in 2026, but when ready-to-serve and ready-to-drink products are excluded, core spirits are expected to decline for a fourth consecutive year. Pre-packaged cocktails, meanwhile, are projected to post another double-digit gain.

Implications for producers:
Category size alone does not indicate where the best opportunity exists. International brands entering the U.S. should evaluate consumer occasion, format, package size and price point alongside the traditional category landscape.
